We are honored to share that Tetiana Yaroshenko, co-founder of Ukrainian Flavors, was recently featured in 805 Living, a beloved local magazine in Southern California. In this special piece, Tetiana opened up about her journey from Ukraine to California, and how that journey sparked the creation of a business rooted in tradition, resilience, and love.
A New Chapter After an Unexpected Turn
When the war in Ukraine broke out, Tetiana, like many others, had to make the heartbreaking decision to leave her home. She arrived in California with her family, carrying with her not just a suitcase, but also the flavors, memories, and traditions of her homeland.
"We didn’t plan to move to the United States," she shares in the interview,
"but when everything changed so suddenly, we just wanted to be safe — and somehow still feel close to home."
In this new place, she quickly realized that many other Ukrainians, Eastern Europeans, and even locals were searching for something comforting, something familiar — and that something was food.
Cooking as a Way to Rebuild
Tetiana didn’t just cook to nourish her family. She began to bake and prepare traditional dishes for others — frozen varenyky (pierogi), holubtsi (stuffed cabbage rolls), crepes (nalysnyky), and of course, borscht. Slowly, one customer at a time, Ukrainian Flavors was born.
From a small kitchen in Camarillo, her team began handcrafting frozen meals that could be easily prepared at home — preserving the taste of Ukrainian cuisine.
“This business isn’t just about food,” Tetiana explains.
“It’s about bringing warmth to people who miss home. About sharing something meaningful with a new community.”
A Taste of Ukraine, From Our Kitchen to Yours
Today, Ukrainian Flavors delivers throughout Ventura County and Los Angeles, and even ships select non-frozen items to other states. Each product is handmade using authentic recipes, with local touches that make them just a little extra special.
Whether you're Ukrainian or simply a lover of delicious food, Ukrainian Flavors invites you to enjoy a taste of heritage, family, and home.
